A Note On Tribes and Accelerate Presentation

August 9, 2013 by [email protected] Leave a Comment

As a young entrepreneur, it’s lonely on the way up.

There’s a saying: It’s lonely at the top. Sometimes that’s true. When you’re successful, it’s often hard to find people to relate to. You certainly can’t relate to the masses. Most of the people you grew up with aren’t on the same page as you. Your environment just doesn’t push you to be your best.

This is why tribes like Maverick1000, EO, YPO and many mastermind groups exist. It’s not the only reason, but it’s a HUGE driver for their existence.

And while I believe it’s true that it’s lonely at the top, I’ve found this even truer:

It’s even lonelier on the way up.

As a young entrepreneur, your social decisions can dictate your future.

If you hang out with your peers, the ones you grew up with… you know, the ones who think you’re crazy, or amazing, or lucky or whatever. The ones who are partying it up every weekend in college. Or maybe they just got their first jobs after graduation, starting to really live in reality, and just learning to commiserate at the bar after work about their bosses, their hours, and talking about the good old days.

This group WILL NOT DRIVE YOU TO BE YOUR BEST.

They won’t.

In fact, this social structure will hold you back.

But here’s the deal: even if you’re fortunate enough to hangout with other successful entrepreneurs, people doing something significant, most of them are a generation older than you. They’re in a different world. They’re further a long in their journey.

They can be your mentors. You can look up to them. But it’s so hard to develop true friendships with them. To have unique and significant experiences with them. Even to party and celebrate with them.

So what are your choices?

Hangout with a social structure that holds you back, but maybe you have fun with… OR (if you’re fortunate enough) hangout with older entrepreneurs that push you and pull you up, but that might inadvertently rob you of your youthful experiences.

So what do you do?

Fuck both paths.

Don’t get me wrong, have your mentors. Hang out with those successful older entrepreneurs that pull you up.

But to be truly fulfilled in the now and experience the best of your youth while also becoming your best and creating your greatest future, you need to join or form a tribe.

A tribe of young entrepreneurs who are going in the same direction, with aligned values, and common futures.

A couple of years ago I first read Yanik’s 34 Rules For Entrepreneurs, and the rule that hit me most was #29:

“Mastermind and collaborate with other smart entrepreneurs if they have futures that are even bigger than their present.”

Another major lesson I learned from Yanik is the importance of enjoying the present, especially my youth.

Enjoy your youth and create the best future that you possibly can. Make your most meaningful memories while pushing yourself to achieve your greatest goals, purpose, and potential.

Find a tribe or form a tribe that helps you do that. It will probably make the greatest difference in your youth and your future.

And with that, I’m excited to launch a new tribe. A tribe to find and cultivate the Next Generation of Maverick Entrepreneurs. In partnership with Yanik Silver, we’re excited to pre-launch Maverick Next.

We’re only looking for a specific type of person: a young entrepreneur, 25 or younger, who already has a successful business, and who wants to make a significant impact in the world while living a fun, meaningful, and fulfilling life.

If that sounds like you, I invite you to pre-apply here.

Go out and find your tribe, or create it. It make will more difference than you can imagine on your growth, your memories, and your long term success.

My 2012 In Review

December 31, 2012 by [email protected] Leave a Comment

The past year has been my best so far. It was crazy, productive, and unpredictable to say the least. Filled with travels, business struggles and successes, new relationships, life changing lessons, and unique adventures – it’s been unforgettable. But it’s also just the foundation for the rest of my life of freedom, passion, and purpose.

How it started:

I started 2012 with my best month to that point, doing about $6,000 in revenue that month. I set a goal to do $10,000 in February, and fell short of that goal by just a couple hundred dollars – but it was good enough for me. I felt like I had my first 5 figure month, and used that as momentum to do it every month since, building a 6 figure business in 2012. Given my goals at the time, this was exactly what I striving for. But now, it seems so minuscule in light of my new purpose-driven goals and vision for the coming years.

The best thing I did to start my year was fill out the scholarship for Underground … just a few hours before the deadline. I was accepted. I was excited. But I didn’t realize just how much that event would change my life.

At Underground, after meeting a ton of cool people and entrepreneurs I’ve been learning from for years online, I got to meet Yanik Silver. We found we both had a strong affinity for young entrepreneurs and for changing the world through entrepreneurship. It wasn’t long after that Yanik became my mentor – and I’d have to say getting involved with Maverick was the catalyst for so many of my unique life experiences this past year, and has created the foundation for the coming decades of impact.

I’ll have to dedicate another post to my unfolding ‘Maverick story’ and my love affair with the brand, the people, and the creation of the Maverick EcoVerse.

The Year In Review…

Trips and Travels:

  1. Austin – Leverage Summit
  2. DC – Underground Online Seminar 8
  3. Daytona – vacation
  4. Dallas – GKIC Superconference
  5. Austin – Equity Investors Network
  6. NYC – Maverick Dangerous Dinner + Multiplier day
  7. Washington DC for Co-Creation Event
  8. Park City for Maverick Family Freedom event, then Salt Lake City
  9. NYC – Maverick Mayhem event at a haunted hotel
  10. San Diego, OC, LA – vacation with friends
  11. Las Vegas – vacation with friends + RSD World Summit
  12. Austin – Maverick Multiplier Day + Dinner at John Paul Dejoria’s ranch + checking out apartments
  13. Nashville – GKIC InfoSummit + jail (another post coming later on the ‘jail’ lol)
  14. Maui – Nick and Amber’s wedding
  15. Mexico – Maverick M3 Summit

My 3 Biggest Discoveries of 2012:

  1. Putting the right people in the right seats (still working on it) including myself: Focus on leveraging personal strengths and passions vs. generic success principles
  2. I’m here to co-create something game changing through entrepreneurship
  3. Rejuvenation through unique experiences drives me forward

3 Most Memorable Experiences of 2012:

  1. Mayan rituals in Mayan village
  2. Intense mountain biking in Park City, Utah
  3. Spending the night in Nashville County Jail

So many more to name, from hot air ballooning in Park City to watching the meteor shower in Maui and many more. It’s hard to choose a top 3.

My 3 Biggest Mistakes of 2012:

  1. Taking on too many project and clients with too few resources. I was looking for my kryptonite and found it.
  2. Undervaluing my own time and over-estimating others
  3. Asking the Nashville bartender for water, then trusting the police there lol (another post, coming soon!)

However, I don’t really mind the mistakes, as they led me to today, and each has held an important lesson or experience for me.

With Tim Ferriss

With Tim Ferriss

I also met some really amazing people this past year. In addition to all the inspiring entrepreneurs in Maverick1000, I’ve had the opportunity to meet Tim Ferriss right here in Boston (I’ve been a long time fan, as Tim’s 4 Hour Work Week was a major source of education and inspiration for my current life), and John Paul Dejoria (found of Paul Mitchell Hair System, Patron Tequila, and more) at his ranch near Austin, TX.

Single best decision of 2012: filling out the scholarship application for Underground Online Seminar 8.

I’ll write another post in the next few days on my goals, upcoming plans, and what I’m most excited about for 2013.

To everyone who’s been there with me through this journey over the past year, thank you. I have such a big list of people to thank for making this past year possible.

To everyone who’s sticking with me or joining me for an even crazier ride for 2013, I look forward to an incredible journey with incredible people!

Happy New Year!

My BIG List

April 25, 2012 by [email protected] 5 Comments

I was inspired by Yanik Silver’s book 34 Rules for Maverick Entrepreneurs (download on the right) to create my Big Life List. I’ve always set goals, but this is a bit different. It’s actually a lot more fun and very energizing. The Big Life list is sort of like a bucket list… all the big things you want to do before you die.

It’s my list of what I plan to Be, Do, and Have throughout my lifetime. It’s made to be dynamic… it will keep growing as I grow, and I’ll get to cross items off the list. I’ll make this post easily accessible on my site so you can always see my progress. I hope it inspires you to make your own list!

BE:

  • Become a best-selling author
  • Fluent in Spanish
  • Fluent in Portuguese
  • Moderately fluent in French and Italian
  • A millionaire by 26 (not achieved, but built a million dollar company at 26)
  • A great father (this doesn’t get crossed off till all my future kids agree!)
  • A incredible husband

DO:

  • Speak infront of an audience of 10,000 people or more
  • Go sky diving
  • Create a business or product that dramatically impacts the world (doing it with NEXT)
  • Go hang gliding (in South America … but really anywhere will do)
  • Go hot air ballooning
  • Squirrel Suit Jump. Yeah, seriously.
  • Write a book
  • Snowboard at one of the coolest mountains in the world (suggestions please!)
  • Hang out with Tim Ferriss
  • Go mountain biking in the Philippines
  • Sell a company
  • A million dollar product launch
  • Bungee jump
  • Scuba Dive
  • Tour the Egyptian pyramids
  • Drive cross country (did this in a convertible!)
  • Go into space
  • Impact 1,000,000 young entrepreneurs (25 and under to start or grow their own ventures.)
  • Release my own rap album
  • Rap on stage in front of an audience of 1,000+
  • Drive at 200+ mph
  • Fly a plane
  • Travel to/across Europe
  • Visit Russia (and hopefully see some of my family there)
  • Hang out with Sir Richard Branson
  • Speak on stage with Tony Robbins

HAVE:

  • A blue Lotus Elise
  • An ocean side home (kinda have this now)
  • A cool sports bike (suggestions?)

This is just a start. Like I said, this list will keep growing. And I’ll start crossing items off right here as I accomplish them! The “do” list will grow quickly… the “have” list is tough for me, as I really don’t care about stuff that much these days.

If you have any suggestions, please comment below! If this inspired you to make your own or add to yours, comment with that as well! If you want to collaborate any of these with me or help me accomplish them, comment!

I’m Going To Yanik Silver’s Underground 8!

February 4, 2012 by [email protected] Leave a Comment

A couple of days ago I got some incredible news. I’ll be attending one of the greatest internet marketing seminars in the world, Yanik Silver’s Underground Online Seminar!

The ticket alone is $3,495.00

It’s in Washington, DC March 1st – 3rd.

Check it out here.

This event will have some of the top speakers in the internet marketing world. Past speakers and attendees include guys like Tim Ferriss, Gary Vaynerchuck, Bob Parsons, and other really cool experts.

Instead of having to pay $3,495 or whatever the current price is, I was fortunate enough to get a scholarship for the event. Michael Dunlop (of IncomeDiary.com and RetireAt21.com) was giving away 10 scholarships to entrepreneurs age 13 – 23. I applied – and I was chosen! I am beyond grateful to Yanik, Michael, and the others that have made this possible.

Check out Yanik’s primary goal right now, according to his website:

“Currently his most important mission is impacting 1,000,000 young entrepreneurs (ages 13-23) to start or grow their business by 2020.”

I can’t explain how excited I am to attend this event.

I already believe realistically that PIM will reach five figures in revenue this month… and going to this event next month will just multiply the momentum we have now. I will definitely send an update from the event and give some key takeaways in a blog post afterward.

PS – I am also attending the Leverage Summit in a couple of weeks in Austin, TX. The event is February 17th – 19th but I’ll be there for a week. I’ll make sure to share an update and takeaways from Austin as well.
